Priorities

Actively encourage new housing in Ganges by:

  • Implementing the new Salt Spring Island Integrated Housing Strategy

  • Exploring the creation of a Salt Spring Island Housing Authority

  • Working to extend the Ganges Sewer System to appropriate additional areas adjacent to the current service area

Advocate strongly for Salt Spring with off-island agencies by:

  • Establishing a BC Ferries Advisory Committee for Salt Spring

  • Pressing CRD Regional Parks to speed up development of (and fund) the Salish Sea Trail linking Vesuvius to Ganges to Fulford

  • Pushing the CRD Board to fund affordable housing projects on Salt Spring

Improve local government decision-making on Salt Spring by:

  • Adding a town hall session to every regular LCC meeting

  • Bringing full administrative authority over Salt Spring’s CRD water and sewer services to the island

  • Creating citizens assemblies to assist with some of our community’s most challenging decisions

  • Working with other agencies to further consolidate local government decision-making

Enhance some of Salt Spring’s most important services by:

  • Increasing transit service capacity on the highest-demand routes

  • Taking a more strategic approach to economic sustainability

  • Supporting more music and other community events in our parks and public spaces

Manage Salt Spring tax dollars carefully by:

  • Making value for money our top priority in budgeting

  • Ensuring any new or expanded local government services are financially sustainable over the long-term

  • Aggressively pursuing federal and provincial grant funding for our major projects

  • Developing a clear plan for maintaining, upgrading and/or replacing important public facilities as they age

Address key community concerns by:

  • Revising Salt Spring noise and animal control bylaws to better protect agriculture and the island’s rural character

  • Revitalizing cross-agency watershed protection activities

Serve our community well by:

  • Pushing for clearer and more accessible budget information that clearly links the LCC’s budget to its strategic plan

  • Holding weekly open office hours in Ganges

  • Talking straight, with no political double-talk!

  • Committing to remain a Salt Spring resident for the entire term
