  • Three-plus years as a Salt Spring Local Community Commissioner

  • Seven years as a Salt Spring PARC commissioner

  • Past service on three Salt Spring non-profit boards

  • Almost 35 years as a self-employed small business owner

Knowledge

  • Good understanding of how local government works and the quirks of local government on Salt Spring

  • Lead writer of the Salt Spring Local Community Commission discussion paper (2022)

  • Lead writer of the Community Alliance Governance Working Group report that recommended establishment of a Salt Spring LCC (2018)

  • Masters Degree in Geography

Energy

  • As an LCC Commissioner and before that a PARC Commissioner, I did my homework, came to meetings prepared and asked questions, including hard ones

  • I initiated discussion and moved many motions aimed at improving how we do local government on Salt Spring

  • As a farmer, I know the value of hard work and teamwork. Transforming a vacant 5 acre property into a vibrant 3,500-tree organic apple orchard was no small task!
